Here’s The Challenge: …”create a blog post showcasing your must have accessories for Autumn Winter 2012, all of the accessories must be available from Dundrum Town Centre”. And here’s my Challenge 2 entry:

The mood board I created to inspire the Biker Chic look.

Leather is everywhere this season! You can’t avoid it, from the catwalk to the high street, its presence is stronger and tougher than ever. The edgier, undone look is also hotter than ever before. This look allows clashing textures, mismatched accessories, ‘just out of bed’ hair and lots of layering of different textiles. For me, these unique and powerful fashion qualities scream a certain trend… Biker Chic! The Biker Chic look has been a favourite of mine for all of time, and having seen what Autumn Winter 2012 has to offer, it is quickly becoming an all-time favourite season of mine!

Autumn Winter 2012 is embracing all of the greatest characteristics of Biker Chic and making the most of them. The biker look is no longer limited to just dark, dull and grungy, the boundaries have finally been broken and biker has suddenly become sexy, chic and glam. Bright and bold colours can be added to the toughest of biker-esque outfits to add a sexy and feminine twist. In my opinion, Biker Chic has always been super hot, in an understated way. Regardless of opinion however, when you see biker inspired outfits and leather in its masses making its way down the catwalk for Givenchy during Paris Fashion Week and Biker Chic getting the nod at The Tommy Hilfiger show, it becomes undeniable that leather is a serious must have this season! It was Moschino’s Autum Winter 2012 Collection that stole my heart however with the appearance of leather, biker pieces, chunky jewellery, primary colours and clashing textures, see the inspiring video below:

And with that, I’ve decided to put together a collection of must have accessories to achieve the perfect Biker Chic look. It’s all about wearing the patterns, materials and accessories that you want, without worrying if they ‘go together’, after all, bikers were born to rule, not follow the rules! You can click here to view the Pinterest board that I created to demonstrate the ideas and accessories that inspired my Biker Chic look:

Before accessorising, it’s important to get the basics sorted. Accessories without clothing would be… well interesting, but not quite what we’re going for! So here are the key pieces for achieving the perfect foundation for the Biker Chic look, along with the accompanying must have accessories for Autumn Winter 2012:

Selected Femme Black Leather Biker Jacket from BT2 Dundrum. Leather is always a classic, whatever the fashion weather, and this season it is EVERYWHERE. Givenchy had a leather theme running throughout their Autumn Winter 2012 collection at Paris fashion week, from pencil skirts, skater skirts, dresses, trousers and of course, the biker jacket. This jacket is fitted and feminine but tough at the same time.

Accesorise your leather jacket with a cool scarf. I’ve chosen Diane von Furstenberg’s Kenley Printed Cashmere scarf in red and white. The soft and gentle cashmere fabric contradicts everything that the leather jacket is about, and for that very reason, they work together perfectly. The clashing, luxurious textiles add a regal touch to the outfit, making you look and feel a million dollars. The bold red is a real statement piece and looks striking against the black leather. You’ll find the Diane Von Furstenberg scarf in Harvey Nichols Dundrum.

Keep it simple under the leather jacket and scarf with a cotton tee or tank top. You don’t want too much bulk underneath the tight fitting jacket, otherwise it’s uncomfortable and not very flattering. Known for its soft fabrics and kooky designs, Wildfox do the perfect range of light cotton tops, from vests to tees, to complement your biker look. I’ve chosen a simple white tee. Monochrome is huge right now from Just Cavalli, Versace and Moschino launching a number of monochrome pieces this season. Wildfox is available from BT2 and Harvey Nichols Dundrum.

Just because the leather jacket comes off, doesn’t mean you have to lose your Biker Chic look. Team your edgy Wildfox tee with this trendy diamante skull necklace from River Island Dundrum. What kind of biker wears diamantes I hear you ask?… The Chic kind! The contrast between the idea of the dangerous skull and the elegance of the diamantes makes this the perfect piece for a chic biker chick!

With so much layering and different textures happening on the upper body, keep it simple on the bottom half with skin tight Dr Denim skinny jeans from the Denim Bar in BT2 Dundrum. They flatter your figure and are probably the coolest brand of jeans out there. They scream Biker Chic but are subtly sexy at the same time. They are available in a huge range of colours but I’m sticking with black. The accessories are the eye popping pieces for this outfit.

Emphasise your waist and add a little colour to your jeans with a skinny red belt. If you tuck your tee into your jeans it will look great. I’ve chosen red, primary colours are classic and bold. This season red, yellow and blue are making a name for themselves, particularly where accessories are concerned. River Island Dundrum have a dark red thin belt, or if you fancy something a little more luxurious, Lanvin at Harvey Nichols have a beautiful red patent leather thin belt  with a little bow, which would go with the outfit perfectly. Either or, a brightly coloured belt is a must-have for your skinny jeans this season.

Trainer wedges have been creeping up on us for a while, and it seems they have officially arrived!  They are most certainly one of the top must haves of Autumn Winter 2012. I fell in love with this fabulous pair called Lexi by Kurt Geiger. They set off the skinny jeans perfectly and again, the leather material and silver studs stand for everything Biker Chic. Available from BT2 and House of Fraser Dundrum.

The piece de resistance, Marc by Marc Jacobs cobalt blue leather handbag… this handbag makes the outfit. The primary blue shade ties in with the flamboyant red scarf flawlessly. The colour is so bold and the leather is so soft, it brings the whole outfit to life, turning it from your average biker outfit into the outfit of a chic biker fashionista! Available in BT2 Dundrum.

Stack on some black and silver mesh bracelets, pop on a wild thing bumper ring set and glam it up with a red stone claw ring… voila, your hands and wrists have been Biker Chic’d! Also, don’t forget to stick in a pair of these ultra cool cross stud earrings to finish off the look. Biker jewellery is huge right now, think crosses and skulls and lots of them! All available from Topshop at House of Fraser Dundrum.

Now you won’t be going anywhere without your hair and makeup done will you…? The beauty of Biker Chic is that the undone, effortless look speaks volumes. Throw your hair up in a top knot bun, Stella Mc Cartney, Diane Von Furstenberg and Louis Vuitton showcased some of this seasons’ collections with their models donning buns… it is a neat and pretty way of putting the emphasis on your outfit and accessories and it looks great with a leather jacket, very chic! The gorgeous and stylish Gwen Stefani and Cassie have got this look down to a tee.

Any flyaway hairs can be kept in place with a skinny black elasticated hairband, believe it or not, these also graced the catwalk in Carolina Hererra’s Autumn Winter 2012 collection. Hair accessories are having their moment in the spotlight this season. Pick one up in Penneys Dundrum (they come in assorted packs of 10 so you can switch up the colours as you fancy).

Create the cat-eye look with some Mac black gel eyeliner a la Miss Moss. It is the perfect makeup look for this outfit and finally, it’s not Biker Chic without a slick of Mac’s ‘Dare You’ scarlet red lipstick! Pick up your lipstick and eyeliner from the Mac counter at BT2 Dundrum.

Oh and before you hop on your Harley and ride off into the sunset, you’ll need just one more thing…  Rayban Aviators. Spring, Summer, Autumn or Winter, you’re not a true biker without a pair of shades, and the undeniably cool and ever so stylish classic Aviators are the perfect pair to finish off your outfit. Available from The Sunglasses Hut Dundrum.
